The China Cats & The Alligators SKULL & ROSES Warmup Party at the Santa Cruz Vets Hall

Mar 23, 7:00pm

The Santa Cruz County Veterans Memorial Building

Mountain Music Productions and SKULL & ROSES present the Skull & Roses Warmup Party!

Dance to the sounds of the China Cats + The Alligators together in one space for one night, Saturday, March 23 at 7:00pm at the Santa Cruz County Veterans Memorial Building on Front Street in downtown Santa Cruz. Tix: bit.ly/ChinaCatsAlligatorsVetsHallThe China CatsThe Bay Area’s longest-running tribute to the Grateful Dead, the China Cats have been burning up stages with the same band members since 2012. That consistency shows in the band’s ability to turn on a dime, pull out hundreds of different Grateful Dead songs, and deliver that sense of adventure that Dead fans love. Tight but loose; loose but tight.Performing throughout North America headlining concert halls and festivals including an annual spot at the Skull & Roses Festival in Ventura, CA. Lead guitarist Matt Hartle is well known through his regular Grateful Sunday series at Felton Music Hall, where he uses top players from the Bay Area each week. Matt also works with Joe Craven in the acoustic project Painted Mandolin. Rhythm guitarist Scott Cooper has also forged a name for himself through his performances with the China Cats and Rosebud as well as his original material. His debut CD reached #5 on the national jam band radio chart, and his most recent release is rising on the Americana charts. Together with keyboard player Steve Sofranko (a regular with Stu Allen), bassist Roger Sideman, and drummer Michael Owens, the China Cats are well known and well loved. The band has also performed with former Dead vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux, JGB organist Melvin Seals, and others."One of the premier tribute bands in Northern California. The group has spent years infusing the classic sensibilities of the Dead's catalog with their own flair and energy" — Good Times, Santa Cruz"The Bay Area's leading Grateful Dead tribute band... Instead of attempting note-for-note re-enactments, the China Cats try to re-create the spirit of the Dead with creative jam sessions. This Bay Area tribute band performs the songs of the Grateful Dead with spirited jams that carry their own genuine personality while paying homage to their musical forefathers." — Modesto BeeThe Alligators Emerging out of the swamps of Southern California, The Alligators were formed to celebrate the music of Grateful Dead, “Pigpen” and Beyond! Simply put, The Alligators are here to party hard and Rock you!The band's repertoire consists of high-octane, whiskey-soaked versions of the often-neglected Pigpen songs that are the bedrock foundation of the Grateful Dead. They don’t stop there, however, and one is never sure what may materialize in their barn-burning performances.Their energetic stage show is anchored by lead singer, Pete Carona, whose unique style is Pigpen-esque, but in No way presented as an impersonation. The dual guitar assault consists of “Stevie Ravioli” on Rhythm guitar and Steven Kim—AKA “The Kimchee Warrior” on Lead Guitar. Chompin’ the keyboards and piano is “Berkey Gator” and on bass guitar is “J.J. Gator” Rounding out the rhythm section on drums is Richard La Chomp. The bands' first show in 2017 was just supposed to be a One-Off gig to fill a 6 am time slot of another band who had canceled a last-minute festival spot. Our Manager and Founder of Southern California's Skull n Roses festival, Chris Mitrovich, had a last-minute epiphany to fill the void with a fresh band to kickstart the day. He rallied each band member who all came from completely different musical backgrounds, and genres, but all shared a common Love for big time jams and Grateful Dead Music. That day… The Alligators were born. We got such a wonderful response as we came off the stage that first show, all the people in attendance were saying to us “Where do we see you next?” So, we rolled with it, and every show we play, the crowds get bigger and bigger, and the Jams keep getting sweeter and sweeter! The gas pedal has been pinned to the floor ever since. The Alligators play year-round spreading the gospel of fun-loving, ass shakin’, Boogie Woogie, Swamp-rockin’ Jam Music.Come and join the party and… Come Chomp with us!#livemusic #gratefuldead #santacruz #chinacats #alligators #vetshall...
