Participate in the Growth of the Veterans Hall
All it took was some available hallway wall space, a few rooms and some inspiration to spark one of the county’s most prized attractions. Veterans Hall, the creation of now Veterans Hall Director, Glenn Jones, has grown from a desire to place a few photos on some blank walls, to an incredible memorial hall housing over 400 veterans photographs, 35 showcases and an abundance of war memorabilia.
Unfortunately the Hall has outgrown the limited amount of space available, and the location on the third floor of the Jackson County Courthouse makes it virtually impossible for the elderly and disabled to visit. The non-profit organization is currently planning fund raising events in order to acquire property and erect a new completely accessible building so that all veterans, their families, and visitors will be able to enjoy the Hall dedicated to honoring Veterans.
“There are so many of the older Veteran’s whose family members have placed their photos and historical information in the Hall but are unable to see it themselves,” said Jones, ”thanks to the popularity of our Hall, we are finding ourselves in a predicament when it comes to housing the increasing number of photographs and memorabilia, and providing total accessibility to the public. We need property, and a building for our Veterans, and that’s what we plan to provide through donations from the fundraisers.”
A fundraiser (food, cakewalk, auction, etc.) will be held at the Jackson County Middle School on June 14th beginning at 5pm. The Veterans Hall is fortunate to have a number of large (+$1000) contributors. Donations from small to large are graciously accepted and all donations are tax deductible. Those interested in donating to the Veterans Hall Memorial Building Fund may call Glenn Jones at 931-268-2293, or Beverly Johnson, Chairperson of the Middle School fundraiser, at 931-858-5055.
